Rhodes Archeological Museum
The Archaeological Museum of Rhodes is located at the center of the Medieval Town, right by the famous Ippoton street (Knights Street) and housed within the medieval building of the Hospital of the Knights. The latter was built around 1440 by the Grand Master de Lastic with money bequeathed by his predecessor, Fluvian, and completed in 1489 by the Grand Master d'Aubusson.
The upper floors in the building were used to take care of the sick while the ground floors used to host the stables and the warehouse. In the building’s large courtyard, surrounded by a double portico following a typical Gothic architecture, there is a magnificent lion statue made from Lardos stone resting its forepaws on a bull’s head.
