At Sun Beach, proactive conservation and protection of the environment and nature is a very important part of our corporate philosophy, aiming for better living conditions in a green and healthy earth. We do believe that environmental quality management is a prerequisite for an excellent holiday quality. This way we safeguard our natural resources, we assure the sustainable development of our company and at the same time we gain our environment conscious guests' loyalty, since they have the opportunity to witness our outstanding environmental policies and actions.
Sun Beach is an excellent environmental performer in all aspects. Pollutants, gas emissions and energy are positioned highly in the managerial agenda. A highly motivated staff is guided by specialists in the field, who have formulated the hotel's environmental policy and monitored the implementation of the consequent plans:
Solar thermal panels cover nearly every hotel roof, preventing the building from overheating, acting as a solar curtain and generating hot water for various uses. Temperature and flow are continuously monitored by the Building Management System.
Heat recovery from the air-conditioning heat pump is recently installed, generating warm water and, in conjunction with the solar system, diminishing the level of fossil fuel consumption used for water heating.
A state-of-the-art intelligent building management makes all energy figures available in real time to the staff involved. Its role expands to lighting control, air-conditioning & ventilation optimization and safety monitoring of electromechanical equipment.
Water flow and pressure affecting consumption and comfort are controlled by means of computerized equipment, moreover preventing hydraulic shocks and eliminating energy needs.
A state-of-the-art solar cooling system is already in place, as the sun in the Mediterranean countries can heat water up to the necessary level of 90 degrees with flat plate selective collectors. Market leading equipment is used to 'convert' heat to cooling water following the successful implementation of a similar solar cooling system at our sister hotel the Rodos Palladium Leisure & Wellness. Two photovoltaic plants have also been connected to the grid in 2009 in order to cover peak electricity demand.
Ecological solutions are applied for washing and surface cleaning, minimizing hotel impact to the environment. Recycled paper is used wherever possible and office printing scrap paper is reutilized for secondary uses. Batteries, oil and cans are recycled as well.
In most buildings single glassing is replaced with stop sol double glassing. Heat losses are important especially in the Sun Beach Holiday Club, where operational season lasts for 10 months.
Water quality is continuously monitored and ensured by special equipment, including filters, environmental sensors and de-scaling devices, providing absolutely safe and pleasant water for every use.
Use of modern energy technology, like energy management systems in all guestrooms, such as: Hot-cold mixer tabs, low-energy lighting by exclusive use of energy-saving bulbs, main switches with magnetic keys, which activate or deactivate energy in room (except fridge), as well as breaker switches and contacts fitted to windows and doors, which switch off air-conditioning when a window or a door is opened.
